How to get sweet oranges from a tree which always gives sour oranges?

    I'm not sure if it's a problem with your soil or if you're picking the oranges too early. Both would make them taste sour. A deep-yellow or orange peel shows that the orange is more mature and the fruit will be sweeter. If you are picking them at the right time then you can try add nitrogen to the soil to see if that makes a difference.     Here in south Louisiana we once grew satsumas. They don't ripen until the end of October & we were told that they get sweet once we have a light frost. So, I guess it all depends on the type of orange tree you have & where you live.

    You may have a sour orange tree or also known as a ornamental orange tree. Use the oranges for things like orangeade same as you would a lemon or orange meringue pie same as lemon meringue. Adjust sugar in recipes according to your own taste. Sour orange is a bit more acidic so you may not want to use as much zest. The trees and fruit have a more knarley/lumpy look to them than eating oranges.
