How to I seal frosted glass spray

I used Sprayon Frosted Glass Spray on my decorated wine bottle - the spray scratches off. I also firstly cleaned my bottle with rubbing alcohol, however it does not look if this frosted spray is permanent.

Oh dear, it's so frustrating when that happens. We used the Rust-Oleum frosted spray paint on our kitchen window and it's lasted for more than three years. You can try applying an EXTREMELY LIGHT coats of matte clear spray paint over the frosted glass. Best of luck Merina

  • I just had to go and give mine a little scratch and you are right it is not permanent. I checked out the speck an the website and it does not say it is permanent. I can wash mine with soap and water but not scrub it. If you are looking for a more permanent solution maybe the etching solution would work better.

Thank you very much however the supplier I bought it from said it is permanent.

It scratches off very easily. I don't think it was meant to be scratched. I was able to scratch it fully off a window and replace it with frosted contact paper.

Rustoleum makes a permanent glass frost spray. 😎

I have been using Rustoleum Frosted Glass spray for years and there are two components to consider: 1. The frost part that is just the frost paint is great and lasts, but even very seldom light handling will begin to show distress over time and it eventually looks uneven. 2. There is often loose "frost dust" left on the finish and that comes right off when you touch it. That being said, it is kind of uneven, especially if you happened to spray a little more in some areas: You will have the frosted glass in some parts and the frosted glass with loose dust in other parts. This has always been what has ruined my frost projects. The good news is...I have a perfect fix!! I apply the 3 layers (at least 10 minutes apart) onto my clean glass project and let it all dry thoroughly. There is often still some loose frost dust when it's dry so I leave it alone and seal it with Rustoleum Matte Clear enamel - frost, dust and all - with VERY LIGHT COATS standing at least 2-3 feet away. I start with one light seal and let it dry. Then I go back a 2nd time or 3rd if needed, being very careful to spray light coats... And it seals it beautifully!!! The entire project is now truly frosted glass with the perfect effect, and the dust seals right into it for a flawless look. Hope this helps!!! Have fun out there!

If the bottles are empty and for decoration only why not spray the inside of the bottle (that is if the neck of the bottle would allow that).

If you are looking for a more permanent solution maybe the etching solution would work better.

I don't see a problem with it except that the best results are when sprayed at an upright angle and not too closely. Otherwise you run the risk of uneven application. It will also not look "frosty" if the outside of the glass is shiny. But I always say try it out on something if you don't mind throwing it out. The other issue is if it needs to be removed, it has to be with a razor blade which from the inside of a glass, isn't an easy task. Let us know how it goes if you try it!
