How to debug plants before bringing them inside ?

It's nearly time to bring houseplants back inside. What DYI steps do you take so that they stay healthy ? Ensure they are bug free?

  • You can clean the plants with insecticidal soap before bringing them in. You can also try baby shampoo diluted with water as a homemade version. Soaps like this will basically dehydrate any insects and kill them. Just make sure to not use a heavy duty soap which can damage plant

    Try 40 parts water to one part dish liquid. Spray on, leave 10 minutes and then hose off the whole plant while outside. Let air dry and then bring into your home.

    Make sure you spray tops and bottoms of leaves, they love to hide on the underside of the leaves. Check the soil for goats or other things you don't want to bring in the house. Clean up any fallen leaves, etc. on top of the soil. Leave them outside for a day or so for whatever you use to do its job before you bring them in.
