Wooden Ceiling?

I removed a drop ceiling in my old house and exposed the rafters. I would like to put up a wood slat ceiling against the rafters, but I don't have a lot of money and my RA (which started recently) makes it difficult to do it myself. Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

Are you planning on painting or staining? If you were painting I would suggest doing a cheaper and lighter wood like an underlayment and ripping the board down so it looks like individual pieces of wood, like shiplap. I hope that makes sense.

My husband installed a bead board ceiling in our kitchen and did attach it to the rafters. This is wood, but you can buy plastic look a like at Home Depot etc. Your problem is probably not as economic (plastic sheets are not expensive) as it it a question of your ability. Overhead work would be heavy and require arm and shoulder strength.
All excellent suggestions here! My concern is attic insulation. Summer can be blazing hot adding to your cooling costs and winter could be frigid adding to your heating costs. I get the aesthetics, just don't forget to think things through. What does building code say? Will your homeowners insurance update their policy? All things to think about. Don't want to discourage your dreams, just want you to execute them properly.
Pacing yourself and resting will help. For some overhead projects we use a ""third arm or hand" which helps balance and secure overhead projects. Like this:
