Hi Cheryl, they make acid wash color for concrete that might be something that would work on your stones.
You can paint garden stepping stones with acrylic patio paint since it is weather- resistant and permanent. Acrylic paint comes in a huge assortment of colors, allowing you to get creative with your stones. I would finish up with a sealer. Rustoleum 2x Clear Sealer seals and protects.
Another idea, You could also use a glow in the dark paint on them.How fun that would be for them to glow in the dark!

Do you want to paint designs on them, or paint them a solid color?
Use a spray paint made for cement/stucco.
