Getting rid of mold and fungus

We've had an enormous amount of rain and humidity over several months and it has caused a lot of mold and fungus to grow in our yard and around our home. How do I get rid of it?

LeAnn, here are several videos. I wasn't sure if you just needed it for the yard, or the inside too. You will find what you need to get rid of the nasty stuff. We've had too much rain here in Missouri too!

Hi LeAnn. I'm Cindy. There are two cleaners to choose from: either bleach, or white vinegar. If you have any structures that have developed mold, you should use a power washer to remove it. Of course, use gloves and safety glasses while doing this cleaning. After power washing, make a bucket of warm soapy water and add a half-cup of bleach or vinegar. Use this solution with a scrub brush and scrub after power washing. You can also put this solution in a spray bottle and spray those areas you can't reach. I hope this helps you.

Wet and Forget kills both moss and mold. A fungicide like copper sulfate kills fungi. You may want to improve soil drainage by aerating your lawn with a aerator from an equipment rental place.

If you have moss growing on roofs, decks, sidewalks and steps use Lilly Miller Moss Out. If you have algae or moss growing on siding, I have used Bleach or ammonia put in one of those hose attachment bottles and use a car cleaning brush. Then rinse off.

This is one of those few times I don't advocate a DIY project. For the health and safety of your family have a mold/mildew removal company give you an assessment. I worked with Superstorm Sandy victims in NY and NJ and many are facing very real (some severe) illnesses because the mold and mildew wasn't properly removed. It can be deadly for people with respiratory issues. Be safe...get it checked out by a pro.

I would try a mixture of bleach and water depending on how bad you have it. You may need a professional to evaluate the problem first.
