Joyce,
I keep a small box of instant mashed potatoes on hand and sprinkle a few spoonfuls where i think they travel. I do this at night since most are nocturnal. After they eat, the flakes expand in the stomach and well they die.
NOTE: If you have pets keep these flakes out of their reach.
Get a Terrier dog! Or a cat.....
The common ingredient I see in deterrents for moles is castor oil that is sprayed on the affected areas. They eat worms and grubs so if you get rid of their preferred food they should leave.
Are they definitely moles or gophers or groundhogs? You can get Tomcat mole killer. But depending how big I would use traps. We had groundhogs in our yard that lived under our shed and front porch. They can get huge and that means their tunnels are huge. You don't want foundations sinking because of pesky tunnels that shouldn't be there. We used these large traps and put food in them that they were attracted to. For groundhogs we used cantaloupe. The traps didn't kill them they were just cages that you could later take them for release. Here is a link to catch moles. My husband breaks up bath soap, that is too small to continue using, and spreads the pieces around the yard.
