What do you mean? Perhaps you could try stencils. Cutting Edge stencils or Royal Design stencils have several templates that would look like doilies.

Do you know how to make a Pom out of yarn? Wrap it around cardboard, with two slits, weave yarn through about 12 inch pieces, tie the knot in the middle, so the Weaved yarn stays in place, then cut the pom. It works for Decor purposes because: Handmade Doilies ain't for resting drinks, really, (unless you actually intend that).

    On a lighter side...

Although I have Glass Coasters, in a Holder, I always remove 1 of the Glass Coasters keep extra Paper or Cardboard Coasters.

    Why?

Sometimes, thirsty in-laws bring 4 to 12 more thirsty in-laws and their cousins.

You can turn them away at the door, but really: is the hassle worth the paper? Nope.

Even laminated coupons or photos from mostly any newspaper you clip out are a Great place for in-laws to place the drinks...

Laminated Photocopies of In-Law Photos that you get, may or may not be a Stretch of Imagination, but one nice thing about those: you can offer those as Parting Gifts to the in-laws before they go.

As guests do usually want to rest drinks on something, provided you did not initially intend homemade yarn coasters, you can always paint the Top Side of any Bad CD or mostly any other something not a homemade craft. Like: an index card or a Napkin.

With some in-laws, Probably the napkin is best, as:

    1. They may have complaints about any 'drinks do not go on doilies please' policy.

    2. Had these been given the index card rather than a napkin, Some In-laws may actually write those complaints down...🙄

    3. As it is much harder to write complaints on a wet napkin, you deter complaints by keeping napkins handy, by creative use of: at least one vacant spot of a Coaster holder, always exists for napkins when you too abide your own policy.

Plus, by keeping napkins near, if there is any spill, it is always easier to maintain hosting, when you need not abandon your guests for a quick jog to the kitchen for napkins
