How do I keep my hanging door decorations from banging on my door?

Put a piece of double faced tape on the back. After the holidays, use a little Goo Gone or baby oil to remove the stickiness from the tape.

Velcro works well also and is easy to remove when the holiday is over.

My door is metal so adhesives don't work well. I tried those last year.

I agree with Nancy's suggestion of using magnets.

A small bit of double stick tape or poster putty.

Use a Foam pad or use Felt or maybe Stick an old sock etc at the back of decoration.

First, loop fishing line through the wreath, then create two additional loops and place them through your wreath. Place one of these two loops over each top corner of the door, and, voila — your wreath appears to be “floating” on your door and there's no damage to be found.
