Old Coffee grounds through the fall and winter I would dump my old coffee grounds on to the rose Bush. When spring came i was amazed how fast my rose bush started to bud. They love the acid from coffee grounds.

If your roses have spots and yellow fading on the leaves before falling off they probably have Black Spot which is a fungal disease.

First, prune or cut back your roses, being sure to 'open up' the center to allow air flow.

Second, clean up all the debris under the plants. Leaving any dead leaves will encourage the fungus to return. Burn this debris to destroy all fungal spores, do not compost as the fungus may survive.

Thirdly, mulch with wood ash [from your bonfire] and good home made compost.

Do not fertilize with nitrogen rich sprays or granules in the first year, this will only encourage soft growth on your roses which will be susceptible to fungal infections again, and will limit the flowering potential of your shrubs
