Ikieya, how about doing some stencils on your tiles? Cutting Edge Stencils and Royal Design Stencils make some really great tile patterns - even Moroccan tiles. You would need to do two or three top coats of Polyurethane or better still, Epoxy. If you go to their sites they show plenty of how-to videos. I was going to suggest checking out refinishing counter tops with cement also. There are lots of interesting tutorials on coating over the old counters to give them a modern look.
