How do I fix a short, in a closet light bulb socket?

My closet light won't turn on when the switch is flipped. My husband has to manipulate the bulb in the socket --which I can't reach without a small ladder-- and this is very frustrating and time consuming.

Thanks!

I wouldn't go to all that bother. They make great lights especially made for closets and small spaces that you just stick onto the ceiling or wall. I have them under my kitchen cabinets and they have a dimmer switch too. Very cheap. I think I paid just over $12.00.

It sounds like there is a short or something going on. I would replace it and check to make sure the wiring is good. There are so many lights out there now, even battery operated ones that you can put where you want in the closet. I don't think your old light is worth risking a fire in your closet.

Tjp. Don't play with electric. Call an electrician, and save yourself a headache. Aloha!

    Hi,

It sounds like there is a short in your wiring or in the socket itself. (assuming your husband has tried tightening the light bulb. ;) ) If that is the case, it could start a fire. Definitely keep that light off and it would also be a good idea to turn off it's circuit breaker until you've had an electrician look at the area. Yes, you could put in a battery powered light, but if it's a wiring issue, you'll want to get that fixed for safety reasons. Wishing you the best.

Turn of the breaker, remove the bulb. wiggle the socket in the fixture and take it apart. check for a loose screw or damaged wire. make needed repair and reassemble.

I am a 76 year old widow, if I can do it so can you.IF YOU REALLY WANT TO.
