How often do you need to water potted plants in winter?

We will be moving our potted plants into the garage before it freezes but often do the need watering.

  • Stick your finger in them at least 2" down. If damp, check again in a few days. If dry, give them a drink. That is how I check on my potted plants year round.

      same idea as me, only I use a wooden skewer rather than my finger. Damp soil will stick to the wood, if stick comes up dry, time to water

    Just don't leave them in a wet saucer to soak up the water into the soil. Don't over water or they will surely die. I know!

    The handiest thing I ever bought was a plant watering meter. You stick the rod in the pot and it will tell you if your plant needs water or not. $19.00 Got mine at Amazon but plant stores have them.
