My bedroom wall is a little plain over the king size bed my husband and I have. So on both corners above our night stands I’d love to put shelving up or some other decor. What can I do to make it not look so overwhelming/cluttered etc.?
Bedrooms are supposed to gently support the spirit and promote a good night's sleep. I would suggest some "floating" shelves, maybe 2 or 3, staggered. Set objects on them that remind you of your faith or some other loving sentiment. If you like, also add an essential oil diffuser to the list. Lavender and valerian oils are great for destress and relaxation.
I can't see what is over the bed-but I think the pics need to be a little larger to balance out the king size bed. I like the idea of the printed words or floating shelves over the end tables, You might also consider wall lighting to get rid of the lamps on the tables.
Oh, dear I am a person who has not any wall space left at all! My husband is an artist and we collect art too. We are very eclectic in our tastes so I could have your space filled up in a nano second. But you have your own tastes and ideas. You have not given us much to go on as we can't see that wall as a whole. But I can tell what you do show that the picture shown is way to small for that space unless you have a whole grouping of them. Here are some pictures of wall hangings in bedrooms in our house. The pic of the little girls was a museum print. .. cost $1 The ones of the children are a photograph of our granddaughter and a watercolor of our grandson. Bedrooms are a good place to have photographs/art/personal items of family. I would avoid shelves, they are for collections of things and it is better to keep things simple in bedrooms. The last pic is from my room, it is a very narrow wall and what is shown is actually just part of the display. There are two items hanging above it, and a cross hanging below it.
One of my sisters has a very large print above her bed. It is of a famous painting and is very compelling.
I like tall lamps with one or two items on the nightstands. Also above the bed on the wall put four larger sized coordinating pictures. Use frames that are about the same color as the headboard. Good luck on your decorating!
I am trying to make out what you have on your bedside table. There seems to be a file container of some sort which I am sure you could find another place for. Also, two drinks, not one, and a very large box of tissues instead of a small square one. The lamp looks far too low down, too, and you could probably see better with a lamp with a long stand. (Or an angled wall lamp, as someone else suggested). To be honest, I wonder why you chose to put such a tiny picture on the wall over a wide bed? It is about the tiniest picture I have seen and gets lost like a postage stamp on the wall.
I am an artist and have paintings all over the house, but none over my bed, so I can't talk. But, if I were you, and I wasn't so lazy, I would hang a very large, oblong picture horizontally with a frame matching the headboard (which is really nice, by the way) over the bed. Also, I would tend to avoid shelves because they would no doubt be filled up with too much clutter in no time and not look good at all. I also think the wall could be painted a different color. It is nice as it is, but does nothing for your linen. Either new linen or paint the wall. Either would be fine.
So many great ideas for such a perfect space. If I were allowed on a ladder (stroke victim and extreme vertigo), I would fill the space over our king-sized bed with prints and signs and banners which I already own or have materials to make. I want to relax and be inspired in my bedroom. Clutter is just stacked organization to me. My son calls his stack of clean clothes his “horizontal closet”. His room needs lots more art—and he is an artist! Best wishes on your bedroom and wall.

I had the same problem. I found a very large picture at the thrift store and cleaned it up and hung it. Looks so good now.
