You definitely have to use the proper paint. ensure you cover all your space and pick up the spray paint made for metal. do short small stokes as note to get drips. its also a very inexpensive treatment.

  • Whether the iron railing is inside or out, you should be able to paint it no problem. Depending on what it has on it currently, you may need to sand it slightly to rough up the finish. Then if it's outside, you should use rust proof paint LIKE THIS type. If you can tape down a tarp or cardboard etc. below and to the sides you could spray paint it and protect the surrounding area. It may be helpful to have a tarp holding buddy help hold the dropcloth up on the sides to help protect more when painting. When spray painting, you should use a good ventilator mask, and have your tarp holding buddy wear one too!

Hello โ€”we refurbished our black wrought iron railing sucessfully by removing rust and lose paint and repainting. We used a wire brush attachment on our cordless drill to do the surface prep and used a Rustoleum black gloss paint to recoat.
