How to upgrade ugly track lighting?

You should be able to get different lights to replace old, outdated lights.

Do a a search on track lighting and the brand to see what options are there.

I'm not sure what kind of track lights you have, but you might also be able to buy small shades for them. Or you could replace it with a new fixture. That's what we did in our kitchen: https://design-fixation.com/2017/04/before-after-new-kitchen-lighting-for.html

If you want or need to stay with track lighting, go to a showroom and look at the new stuff. Everything is smaller and more energy efficient. And it extends the light around the room and onto the walls/art from one ceiling fixture.

Many retail outlets no longer even carry replacement bulbs to fit older fixtures, -florescent, halogen, or incandescent light bulbs. It may be more cost effective in the long run to remove the old fixtures and replace with new ones- either LED bulb, or LED integrated fixtures.
