Most likely you will need to replace the smoke detector. I've experienced the same problem and that was the only solution. My house is only 6 years old, and I have already replaced three of the detectors. Life expectancy isn't always as long as one would like.

Probably a call to our electrician is the answer then.....we were wondering if there was a backup battery that we could replace....

If it has a short you may need to replace it.

All smoke detectors have a battery back up in case of power failure more likely the battery needs replaced if this isn't the case then replace the detector.

I had a problem like this and I changed the battery and it still beeped. I found out that with my smoke detectors after you change the battery, you need to press and hold the reset button. I found this out by doing an internet search on the brand of detector I had, and they had a manual online for it.

Sounds like you need to change the back up battery. I know, I had the same problem, I thought that because they were hard wired they didn't have batteries....wrong !!...they do

Also , check for spiders. At this time of year spiders come into the house and, it seems that the smoke alarm is a perfect hidy-hole for them...and then they trigger the bleeping
