Baking soda and vinegar.
Hi Audrey,
Here are a few different DIY drain cleaner ideas: https://www.hgtv.com/design/decorating/clean-and-organize/5-drain-cleaners-you-can-make-at-home
Use a quarter to half cup of baking soda down the drain, follow it with up to a cup of vinegar. Allow this to fizz and do it's work for a while. Follow this with a rinse of boiling water, I usually use about a gallon. If it is a bathroom sink or tub/shower drain, get one of those plastic barbed things that is made to remove hair and do this before the baking soda/vinegar/boiling water. I hope this helps you with your clogged drain, Audrey! It works for me really well. If it doesn't work after a few tries, you may have a clog that is further down in the pipes that it can't reach and may need to be rotorootered.
Hi! Nancy summed it up very well. I don't usually measure, to be honest. I pour a small amount of baking soda (enough to cover the drain) and then pour vinegar on top. Keep pouring until all the baking soda reacts with the vinegar. Then turn on the hot water run down the drain until it's nice and clear. I also use a hair grabber for the bathroom drains. I haven't had a clogged drain since I've been using one. In case you aren't familiar, here's what they look like:
