You have to build some type of frame. Stained glass is held together by super thin copper foil and solder, in some cases lead came. It is not strong enough to attach ANYTHING to it and not have it be in danger of separating. Depends also on the size. Is it just a small window piece, medium or window sized? If it is a small window piece a ring can be soldered to it to give it a hanger. Medium to large generally needs a frame of some sort, metal or wooden.

You may have to put some kind of frame on it in order to hang it safely because of the weight. You wouldn't want to use something like command strips on something glass that will hang on the wall. You can easily find or make a frame that will hold it with a minimum of the edge covered. You could just use the bare frame and not cover the back, just secure the piece to the frame and the light will still get through with no back. Use the brackets that attach to the top of the frame, not wires that you could see through the glass and hang it where you want.

Hi, I do stained glass.... and when I didn't want to spend the money to frame my items with a wood frame, I would use something called ZINC. You can go to a stained glass store and they will have zinc channels. These zinc channels you will have to cut on an angle to give a mitered edge. You will cut your channels to size and put the stained glass panel into the zinc channels on all 4 sides. Then you will solder the 4 edges at the corners. That soldering is not hard. You will use flux and solder lead or lead-free solder into place at the corners so the zinc becomes a frame. Once you have the stained glass into the frame then attaching a ring to either side at the top with solder is not difficult. You will then go to a hardware store and get a chain where you can string the chain with slack from one ring to the other. If you already have a metal frame around the stained glass but no rings then you probably already have the zinc frame. All that would need to be attached are the rings with solder. Once you have finished with the frame, rings and chain, Hang a hook (drilled in) in front of a window to hang it from the chain. Absolutely NO command hooks! Now one last thing....zinc is hard and cannot be bent. One time I did a piece that was round and needed a round frame. What I did was take U shaped lead came (NOT H shaped) because it already has a channel and is very soft and pliable, and I was able work the lead came all the way around the stained glass piece and solder at the top. Just wanted to let you know there was another way in case the shape of the stained glass was not square. And then ultimately, if you don't care about money, they sell wooden frames with channels at the stained glass store as well. Be prepared to spend some money on that though. I hope all this makes sense. Let me know if you have any questions! Good Luck!
