How to replace a few rows of tile?

I had to have a bathtub replaced and the bottom 3-4 rows of tiles were removed. I will be replacing the tiles myself - something I’ve never done before. I will get a contrasting color tile instead of trying to match the current tile. I don’t want to re-do the whole thing - just what was removed. The remaining tiles are all in good condition and the adhesion/grout is fine. Any tips/hints/suggestions? Once I grout the new section, is it ok to put a new layer of grout over old AND new so it looks uniform (without removing old grout from tiles that were not removed). Thanks!

Hi. The new grout will be too thin over the old grout to adhere properly. Consider painting all the grout when you've finished the job. That way it will all blend. Good luck.

As long as the old grout is in good condition and not moldy you should be able to grout over it to match, but it might rest higher than the new install since it won't settle into the lines as much as what isn't already set.

Thanks! I was wondering about the level difference. There’s no mold.

Hi LAlady, use an epoxy paint. There are grout line pens that make it quick, but any epoxy will do.
