My crawl space is dirt but I have plastic down. What else can I do?

We insulated our crawl space ceiling/floor using batt insulation between the floor joists and then stapled up plastic snow fencing to keep the insulation from falling down. It wasn't fun to do it since we had to lay on our backs--no room to kneel--but it did help keep our floor warmer above the crawl space. The crawl space is under our dining room so in the winter I also add a large area rug to make it warmer on the feet and more cozy.

Hi. You can use a dehumidifier to remove the damp feeling. As for the cold, area rugs solve this problem. Good luck.

You can try running a dehumidifier. That would help with the damp feeling. Are your floor boards right above the crawlspace? Or is there a barrier and insulation between the floor joists? If not, you can roll some insulation between each one and put a vapor barrier on to keep the cold from the crawl space from creeping up through the floor. I am assuming that your crawl space is a true crawl space, and is not that far above the ground.

I did what Gk suggests. I also spent one weekend on my back using 2" foam insulation board in between the floor joists. Three foot high crawl. Sealed any gaps with Great Stuff foam insulation. Then put in fiberglass batt insulation the fill in the space. Stapled strips of chicken wire fencing in different spots to hold the insulation up. Anything can be used to hold it up. I also glued foam board to the crawl space walls with construction adhesive. Leave any vents open. You need air circulation in the crawl to keep it dry.
