Water, light, etc.?

  • I usually keep succulents in an area that receives indirect sunlight, and I don't water them very much... probably every two weeks. Each type of succulent is different though, so experiment with different amounts of water. I find Jade to be the easiest... just water when the leaves get droopy!

Every 10 days put the equivalent of one melted ice cube. Read that. Or toss the ice cube in there. That pretty much enlightened me that I was way over watering!

Make sure they are in an environment that drains well. I filled my pot with rocks about 2/3 and also added rocks to the soil. Also drill holes in the bottom of the pot.

Do not expose to cold temperatures.

Water sparingly. I don't water mine at all. Exterior gets rain water and I make sure it's never standing. Interior gets no water but I feed them all once a week with a fine mist.

If leaves or branches begin to fade, they are getting too much water.

I wish I had pictures (at work). Some of mine were single branches no more than 2" and now they are are flourishing.

I love Kathy's suggestions. Way more succulents are killed from overwatering than under. Make sure they get as much sunlight as possible.
