I need an easy touch up for this night stand?

We found this cupboard at the curb in great shape except for the top. Spots are raised and there’s a yellow mark on it. I thought of putting a ceramic tile on top of it, but are there any other easy ideas from members please.

You could adhere some pallet wood to the top. Stain and poly would look good. Or sand off the top and repaint--another color would dress it up!

Of course sanding and painting is an option - you could color match it or pick something contrasting. Another fun idea could be contact paper - there’s a pretty convincing marble one and many more options. :)

try to sand the spot down smooth with some 80-100 grit sandpaper. After sanding, you can paint over it with some kilz to cover the spot and then paint over it with your finish coat. It would look ok to paint it with a darker color on top and just leave it that way. You will have a new looking treasure from a curbside find!

  • Shop the remnant section of your local stoneyard. Bet you could find a hunk of marble, granite, soapstone for pennies on the dollar. Have cut to fit for a small fee.

    • 😉 Great minds! My girlfriend did this too with leftover pieces from when the built their home. Topped 2 ho hum end tables that are now nightstands in one of their guestrooms. I did the same with a tiny occasional table I have from my parents.

You could cover the top with photos or any design you like then put a square glass over top to protect

Try to sand down the top, then use wood filler where necessary. You could paint the top in a contrasting color.

You could go to Habitat for Humanity and see what tiles or stones they have available. Or you could get a piece of wood cut down at Home Depot or Lowes, to fit the top. Stain to the color of your choice, and glue.

You could also modpodge the top with a map, or stencil.
