Looking at a lot of laminate flooring and want to select something that will last but also not spend a fortune. I’ve seen some that has chipped when I took it out of the box. How do you grade the quality of it?

Go to a reputable store like Home Depot or Lowes and get a replacement guarantee.

  • Try the life proof brand from Home depot

I’ve heard of that brand. I’ll check into it. Thank you!

I hate laminate flooring, I think.its a rip off. Look at solid vinyl flooring that looks like wood. It's warmer. Quieter. Water won't ruin it, looks more realistic than the plastic laminate floor, and on and on..

I hadn’t considered that but I’ll take a look at it. Thanks!

Yes, laminate flooring can easily crack, split, and chip. That is why you do often see pieces that are chipped right in the box. Prices vary, with usually the brands having the thicker top layers being higher priced. Generally though, laminate is at the lower end of all flooring options.

Don't be fooled by terms such as 'lifetime guarantee'. Whose lifetime? Guaranteed for how long a time exactly, and for what exactly? When you really read all the fine print, many times any wearing out or deterioration of the floor is not covered by this 'guarantee' due to it occurring not to installation, or due to use that is not 'normal'. You will most likely be arguing over subjective definition of terms.

Many folks automatically go with laminate because it is cheap, but later regret their decision to not think more longterm.
