Yes, definitely keep it in a pot near bright light (bright sunny windowsill is fine). Water it when the soil feels dry to the touch. Stick your finger into the pot of soil. If it feels dry, time to water it.
You can either start them from a root cutting in a glass of water and then transplant into a pot. If you are using a plant from the garden you could take a bit of it inside or try from seed.
