How to prevent brush strokes on chalk paint?

I have in the past used foam rollers to prevent streaks.

If you are using chalk paint you have to make sure that you don't paint like you would with a regular paint--meaning that you don't move your brush back and forth--you try to paint in one direction with one long stroke. One first coat of chalk paint will look terrible but when you add your second coat it starts to look better. Also--chalk paint is supposed to be sanded down before you put any final finish on it--that will remove most of the brush marks and give you a smoother finish. You can add a third coat if you want more coverage and then sand again. A damp brush will also help--damp--not dripping wet. If you are using a dark wax over a clear wax whatever is left of brush marks picks up the dark wax and that is what gives you the aged appearance.

Thank you both, I did apply one coat and watered down the paint a bit it seemed to help with the brush strokes. I will try your suggestions, I'm really hoping the second coat looks better than the first. This is my first time using chalk paint, If I like the final outcome I will continue to use it on future pieces. I'm sure with practice I will get the hang of it. Thank you again
