Give your friends and family a beautiful Welcome with this rustic Porch sign.
Welcome Home
I went to the lumber yard and bought a 10 foot board the other day..i cut it into 2 5' boards to make 2 welcome signs.
  1. I sanded both sides of the board. I bought rough pine so I thoroughly sanded and cleaned off each side. After this I took a damp cloth and wiped all of the dust.
  2. Once the board is dry I combined two different colored paints. Black and brown to give me the rustic barn board color. Using a baby wipe (great trick) I dabbed my baby wipe into the paint and started wiping the paint all over the board in sections. I did need to mix more paint but that was fine.
  3. I also painted all sides to the board and let dry.
Baby wipes
Color on board is dry.
After the board was dry it was time to stencil. I had bought some letter stencils and each one is a bit different in size so I had to measure out each piece. I used a piece of chalk to mark out each piece as chalk just wipes off.

Stencil measuring
After I put my stencils in place I made sure to use a bit of tape to steady them.
I used a white paint and with a make up sponge I just gently tapped the stencils. I also made sure to hold the stencil down while patting on the paint. Stencils can be very finicky. I Did 4 light coats of paint making sure to dry in between coats.
Almost dry
Once I felt the paint and it was dry I carefully peeled off the stencils making sure not to tear it.
Success!
Note: I also did a cute design at the top of both signs..these were also stencils that I had bought.
After the whole sign was dry I left to cure over night and the next day I used a matte clear finish garnish to coat the sign. Since I live in Canada and we do have 4 seasons I thought it would be best to protect it from the elements.
