What to do with a door?

Malina Fuller
by Malina Fuller

A few days ago I was going around the neighborhood picking up scrap wood & I found a an old door. I'm just looking for ideas on what to do with it, I have some but I am always open to other suggestions. I am not a good artist although I do try to learn from YouTube. However, I do love to paint, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am going to try to send the picture of the door with this question but I don't know if it'll happen or not. Thankyou

You could paint the front to look like a glass French door, or paint a large 'false' window on it. Then attach mini lights to the border of the window. The plug end of the string lights could be pulled through to to the backside of the door through a small hole, so that it doesn' t show hanging down.

Put a file cabinet under each side and use as a desk top or crafts table.

You can also use it as bulletin board. If posible put it next to the exit door most often used. Can attach a mirror, small shelf with hooks to hold keys, can paint part with black paint for a chalk board (again with small grooved shelf for chalk), for notes or attach a white board to it.

If you think of what you or your family might need your choices could be endless.

If you have a wide enough hall way, creating a shelf for boots, books, etc by putting some crates at either end or even small filing cabinets with drawers to hold other things.

Ask family members what they think it could be used for.

Love the desk idea or as a table. Paint or stain it and it will look beautiful and useful again.

If you don't need a craft table maybe a laundry folding table. Could put hinges and hang it on the wall for when needed or put two bottom kitchen cabinets on each side and you'd have storage too.

Since it is flat with no embellishments, It would make a great table top, kids desktop, craft tabletop, there are so many ways. I like the idea of the bulletin board, what a way for kids to put up the artwork, homework, classmates picture, etc. up in their room!

If it were me I would make a sign from it, like stencil Spooky for Halloween or Ho Ho Ho for Christmas, fireworks either for Happy New Year or Fourth of July, etc. It would look good on an open porch or just standing up against a building.

I would cut in half. Base coat of paint and use the above painting technique to make matching/mirror art pieces. Frame with molding painted in an accent color and hang on large wall.
