How do I winterize hens and chicks?

    I live in a cold zone (zone 6 Pennsylvania ) and have never winterized mine. They come back just fine in the spring. You could put some hay or straw on top, but then you face picking it out come spring which does not sound like much fun.

    I used the deep litter method. We don't heat because of the risk of fire. They are pretty resilient creatures.


    If we have chicks in the winter, I move them to the basement and use a heat lamp.

    If you mean the plants Alma (which I think you do) I don't do anything with mine (I'm in the UK) and they seem to survive the frost and snow well :)

    Hello! I live in MN zone 4 we got snow already! I have never done anything with mine. The only cover they may get is from some tree leaves that fell. They come back fabulously. Hardy little chicks!!
