Late winter before you see new growth. Just a thought...watch around your community...I often prune when "professionals" are pruning in business parks and around stores. Just take note now where you see trees and shrubs like the ones you own!

Anyway you want. It's hard to kill them. I cut mine down a month ago and it has branches sprouting out of the trunk already! THey are pretty but make a terrible mess.

Cut back crepe myrtles in late winter because they will not have any leaves and the shape will be easy to see. Be sure to prune back any branches that cross over another branch because it will cause damage to the tree and it will allow bugs to destroy the tree. Please do not top the crepe myrtles because that causes severe damage to the tree. It is best to prune out the middle to allow air to flow through the tree.

I just read an article about this from an arborist who wrote:

Never prune ANY tree, shrub or bush in the fall. We all want to for some reason but it will suffer with the upcoming winter. Prune late winter/early spring or after the bloom. It will have the warm weather to heal.
