It depends on if you have full sun, shade, partial shade. Do you have grass now and what type of grass would you like to have? I am adding a couple of links about grasses to see if this helps you.

Grass is pretty simple- if you have loose dirt you toss seed down across the area and water it per directions usually early morning and late night is what works for me in summer. If you have dirt that is hard you might need to use a hard rake or shovel to get it loosened. If there is a problem with birds eating the grass seeds you'll need to put down some straw but I didn't need to. There are different types of grasses so read the labels to determine what works best for your needs such as a sunny area versus shady area require something different. Also some grow faster which means more mowing. Lots to think about but as far as growing it- that part is easy!
