Wood frame, etc., or possibly PVC in your climate. Go up to our Project box and type in “ building a porch”.

Considering your climate, and depending on your space, check the internet for gazebos to be assembled or even carport kits, leaving you only prep and install.

You will probably need a permit for that. Check with you city and see what is required. Then, before you do anything, you have to make sure that the footings are big (width and depth) enough to support the load you want to put on them. Some patios have no footing at all. If everything is good, then I would block (with cinderblock) two or three course (high). Then put on plates and build your frame on top of that. Also, I don't suggest a flat roof since they tend to leak over time. A slant or A frame roof is best.
