I would cut them way back and fertilize with a liquid fertilizer before the first frost. They should grow back with a vengeance this spring.

We live in Tennessee and my husband will trim ours in November

  • If you prune now you are inviting pests and disease. Best to "prune" in late winter to early spring before they leaf out. Google it, "when to prune roses" - I do mine in late January to early February and have my first blooms by Easter, but I am in Zone 9. My friends in Asheville prune a bit later - different zone obviously - and have the best show roses in Western NC. Call Jesse Israel & Sons Nursery or B.B. Barnes.
