Paint color?

Looking for suggestions of exact paint colors that would work in this room. Everything in room will be gone except clock on wall. The paneling is staying since my husband will probably never get to remodeling this room, so for now I want to paint all the walls and decorate to make it look somewhat better. Most furniture will be medium stained wood with dark blue couch, along with clock on the wall and other accessories that will go with any color. Our style is rustic.

Looking at Sherwin Williams paint colors, maybe Behr. I am really bad at being able to tell undertone of a color on paint chip since it looks different on every wall In the room. Looking for suggestions on exact paint colors to try so I can narrow it down to just a couple colors to get samples of. Thanks!

Looking in from LR which still isn't finished (need to redo Perma-Chink berween logs which will be white).

I'd go to the store and pick LOTS of paint chip cards and walk around with them in the room. Try this at night and again during the day. Toss the ones that are obvious not right. Then go back and buy some small sample pots and paint a swatch on the wall- again look at it day and night to see the difference.

Hi, I am always a fan of white walls because it brightens up the room so much! Try Benjamin Moore simply white (it’s a warm white). You could also try a neutral gray color - Sherwin Williams repose Gray is very popular! As well as revere pewter by Benjamin moore

I think I have too many paint chips..it's making my head spin! I have looked at the paint chips on every wall during the day and at night and the undertone looks so different on every wall I just get more confused every time I look at them.

I don't want plain white and don't care for gray. I was looking at off white/cream or beige/brown, but just can't find the right one(if cream or beige/brown is evenot right).

I'm looking for exact color suggestions, because I can't narrow it down. I think. I like some, but end up not liking them, then maybe liking it, then give up because I don't have a clue. That's why I'm looking for exact color suggestions (SW or Behr) so I can narrow it down before getting samples to put on the wall.

You need to narrow your options. Get some fun colorful pillows with several colors in them including your blue from the sofa or a colorful chair with a pattern, rug, something with multi colors. You can choose a color from there - that will tie it all together. Take the pillow or cushion to Sherman Williams and they can help you match a color.

I am not worried about the couch and accessories. The couch and accessories will go with whatever paint color I end up with. I just want to find the right color for the room first and need suggestions of exact colors to look at to narrow it down. None of the accessories, or pillows will be patterned or bold color, so nothing I would want to color match. Too bad I can't afford to have a designer come look at it and tell me exactly what color to go with, but that's why I'm here asking for exact colors to try hoping someone could give me colors that would work.

something like Behr Rococo Beige or Creamy Mushroom might work. I think one of them would complement the beige in the white paneling and reduce the panelings presence in the room.

I'm painting all the walls including the paneling. I'll check out those colors. Thanks!

Take your paint chips and lay them a few at a time on a sheet of bright white copy paper. You should be able to see the undertones better. If you have similar colors you can lay them together on the white paper and you will see the differences in undertones--this does help me eliminate what I don't want--for example a purple undertone in a gray or a yellow undertone in a white. If you can find a "strip" paint chip sample you can also look at the darkest color to understand what the undertone is of the lighter colors on that strip. It's hard to pick up undertones when you are placing the paint chip on a wall of a different color other than a bright white.

I have given this advice before.. (and should probably take it myself) Consider now what lighting you will have in the room. if you will install new fixtures? What sort of "kelvin" color you will end up with? . I just bought orillis fluorescents oops looks like flouresecents but they are LEDS ( VERY IMPORTANT) for my basement and on thier website they have a nice set of 4 or 5 photos that show you the difference. If you choose a paint color and then change the lighting it will look different. Stick with one or two areas of wall that will be most visible, and evaluate those for different colors. I once painted a room pink and repainted the whole thing because it was way too bold a color. The paint itself really was not so much money, and you will already have your re-useable brushes etc, if you hate the color you've chosen.

regular lamps with regular old shades create some light spots and some darker spots...... consider where you'll place your lighting.

I like the idea of the sample strips of color - that helps me, also. If i like the strongest color, then i'm good, and any of the lighter ones on the same strip will be good.

In my daughter's room we painted two walls purple ( night time) and two walls blue( daytime) the ceiling is white. In the cellar stairway we doodled and added a painted flowering vine and a duck where you'd better duck your head! Relax a bit and pick a color that YOU like.

Also, it is a very happy thng that it looks like you will not have to paint the trim around the door or the floor. You have been given a gift there, so enjoy not having to worry about that!

A creamy color might be nice- sort of the color of whipped cream or maybe a bit more yellow like eggnog? I like all shades of blue perhaps a definitely blue color would be a contrast nice against the color of the door and desk.. My kitchen is "golden oak" and blue.

Just a few accessories that will be in the room along with the big clock on wall in other photo and a dark blue couch. Going for a cozy rustic feel with just a few farmhouse touches with some of the accessories. The clock on floor will be put up if I can find a wall it looks good on.

I was thinng maybe a cream with a beige (brown) undertone, but what about a warm rustic brown? Just want to stay cozy rustic but want accessories including dark blue couch to look good with wall color.

Different patterns of three main colors work great. Match a small amount of assesories with your couch, possibly soothing tones that are spa like in the aqua and blue green shades with a touch of maybe some light maybe. Good luck!

I'm also worried about the walll color looking good with white trim because all the walls will have white trim except the one my husband remodeled with the stained oak.

  • Kathy Kathy on Oct 31, 2018

Laying colors on white paper doesn't help because I think no cream colors go with white and any other color does.

Any other suggestions of an exact sherwin williams or behr paint color that will go with oak trim and white trim and make the room feel cozy?
