The orange plastic pumpkin trick or treating pails have been around so very long and is such a fond memory for so many, me included...

but I'm too old to trick or treat and my kids are grown so I needed another way to use these leftover pumpkins...

...and these beautiful mums needed a planter. So I decided to use the pumpkin as my planter but wanted to tweak the color of the plastic pumpkin.

A bit of acrylic gold paint and an old brush and I was in business!

I removed the handle and gave it a first coat of paint-

Cute but it needed more-

So I grabbed some brown paint and a narrow brush-

And painted the lines to give the pumpkin some definition.

I gave it a 2nd coat of the gold all over. And even a bit of gold on the black eyes, nose and mouth then wiped the excess off just wanting to give it a bit of sparkle there too. Spray it with clear spray paint to protect the look.

I put the mums into my updated pumpkin pail and really love the look!

The pumpkin looks very happy with his makeover. Love making over nostalgic things so they’re useful again
