How to whiten Keds?
I have a pair of white canvas Keds which I washed then dried. Stupid mistake! They're terribly stained & won't come white again. Too expensive to discard. Any remedies at all???

Hi Plm33883687,
I'm sorry this happened, good quality shoes that fit comfortably are hard to find, at least for me so I understand! I have three suggestions for you.
1. You could try soaking your shoes in a solution of Oxi Clean. I suggest an overnight soak then rewash and set outside in the sunshine, if possible, to dry.
2. Try blueing, in case you aren't familiar with blueing, it's an old fashioned laundry product in a blue bottle that whitens whites. You can find it with other laundry products in many stores.
3. I make my own stain remover, a recipe I found here on Hometalk, that might work as well. Mix one part blue Dawn dish soap with two parts peroxide, the first aide kind. Then add enough baking soda to thicken. Mix thoroughly. You want the mixture to still be liquid enough to pour off a spoon. Spread the mixture on the stains and leave it to soak for several hours but don't let it dry. Wash and air dry.
Good luck!
Try oxy clean White Revive
Try using a damp toothbrush and a dab of white toothpaste. Brush lightly and let the toothpaste foam up. Wipe off with a damp cloth and let dry.
Here's a good tip for keeping them clean once you get the stains off with other methods: baby wipes. I was skeptical, but my sister swears by them, so I tried. Works beautifully to clean up the soles and scuffs on the sides. A little wipe after each wear and they'll stay nice and white.
If the previous suggestion don’t work. Use dishwasher detergent in a bucket of hot water and soak overnight.
As a teen, I used white shoe polish liquid. Now I keep them clean with those Kirkland pop up cleaning wipes.
Saturate them with fresh squeezed lemon juice set in the sun it may take a couple of treatments. Payless has a great water and soul repellent spray once you get to white. ALWAYS add bluing to keep whites bright. Use the bleach in the 🚽. If all else fails paint them with chalk paint. Thoroughly wet, paint with chalk paint. Sand once dry and repeat. Enjoy your white KICKS !
