I gotta agree Naomi. This seems like a Bad Idea. Reminds me of an Episode of Mythbusters with Duct Tape Island. I Mean: if you are using $20 of Contact paper over 8 Dominoes Large Pizza Boxes [5 for the frame 3 for the Base, Top and Shelf] for a 3 shelf 16" Tall freestanding bookshelf you may as well spend the extra 7 bucks on 2 bags of quickrete [and a Quality Smoothing Paper] to pour into the Dominoes Pizza Boxes...and just discard or burn off the Boxes.
☺ and by the time you spend the $ on duct tape, contact paper or cement, you can pick up a cheap Ikea or second hand bookcase and make it over with some paint!

I picked up a hand carved lamp there, oh about 2 months ago: $5.
Ended up spending $20 on other stuff too.
For each $40 not spent on make your own junk, at Goodwill you can get a Bookshelf, a pair of blue jeans and other stuff too, plus help out a decent charity.
