Everything Old is New Again...
Our pool had given us many years of enjoyment...fast forward 20 years or so...it's time to say goodbye to our pool!
Now to re-purpose some materials and make a more interesting view than just a boring fence.
We loved our pool...
...and I worked hard at getting it just right.
But the time had come to take it down...
It was hard, manual labor for two 62yr. olds, but we pressed on...
...and on and on (it actually only took about 3 hours).
You can find 'how to' steps online, but it is fairly easy.
We dismantled the wood deck as well (took another 2 hours).
But looking at the view from my window was less than pleasing.
So I took the steppers that were behind the pool and moved them to an area in the yard where nothing grows. I made a little 'stairway to heaven' (or not)
I then moved these very heavy stepping stones and made a porch area for our shed. I also raked and gathered together all of the small white stones as well, which was extremely tedious and time consuming.
There were bricks all around the pool, I gathered them up and placed them against my old fence. I tried to make it look like an old, broken wall of a villa in the south of Italy.
Then I collected some of my old pots, statues and other items from around the yard...
...and placed them randomly about My Villa...
I then filled My Villa with all of those small white stones that once surrounded the pool.
We then filled the area with fresh dirt (lots and lots of bags of dirt) and planted grass seed...
There...now the view is so much happier!

This is really cute. I would love to spend time out there watching birds and butterflies with a glass of wine! I think a pergola would be a great finishing touch!

Great thought, but this project was all about re-purposing what was already available. The only money we spent was towards the dirt for fill in. I got the old window at an antique shop for 10 bucks!

Very diligent of you to save those tiny white rocks. What a project, but what a view you have now! When we took ours down I still have the hole to fill (we submerged ours). I also saved the end caps that said "no diving" and I plan to make concrete stepping stones and use the caps on the stones; maybe give one to each kid as a memory for their yard. Also, noticed you have an electrical outlet and wouldn't a water feature be great for your villa?
