How do you keep hen and chicks plants in a pot alive all winter?

You could put them in your garage. I remember my moms hens and chicks coming back each year planted in the garden and we lived in a suburb of Minneapolis, MN. If you don't have a garage, then I would bring them in the house.

Well I believe they will be fine my wife of 40Yrs. has had outide in old pots several sets we have lived here 30+ years an they do fine year to yr. an we live in extreme weather Washington State we are central of the sate Not the West side ( or as us desert chums say Wet Siders ;an there feet are webbed; any way High temp 110+ degrees to Low of -23 an the hen an chicks did just fine an still are. So for you ; do a test transplant a small batch an put in your freezer for a day or so take out an let warm up, set in sun an see if they come back okay! then You have done your own test ! Cool Huh ! Hi Virgina. We also had these growing up outside in the flowers beds in WI. They came back every year. They are a tough Alpine plant. If you feel more comfortable you can bring them in for the winter. I have some indoors that do just fine. Good Luck!

cover with a heaping pile of straw so the freeze doesnt touch the leaves- I had one i put on my porch so it had the roof to keep snow crystals off and put a clear plastic bag over it- then on nice days I took the bag off so it could breath. you can use plastic but be sure to put tape or elastic around the pot - not only to keep the plastic on but keep the humidity in. if you use some beauty bark shavings around the plants it will keep the soil moist just enough as well as generate heat under the plastic. if yours are in the ground use light weight wood make a frame and put plastic over that the earth temp and no snow or freezing rain directly on them or roots should keep them safe
