Boric acid (poison) with sugar as bait.. Put it down around the ant beds.
If your trees are being destroyed, you may have a large colony of carpenter ants. Borax mixed with sugar may kill the ants, but the tree may be rotting, as well. Best to have it looked at before a good wind storm knocks over your tree.
If you have pets, especially birds, or small children, do your research before using any poison.
I get rid of ant beds by poking a hole in the bed and pouring boiling water down the hole.
