Whimsical Banner

I am a banner junkie. They're simple to construct and can be used to dress up your home for any holiday or season. I make them out of puzzle pieces, scrap fabric, old gift tags, paper flowers, crocheted collections. And even notecards.

I usually display them in my kitchen, on my stove hood, but this time, I decided to make one to decorate my bedroom as a whimsical no sew window valance.

I started with a plain window dressed with simple white panels. I was craving a little something more in the room, but wasn't ready for a full on valance.

I had picked up these beautiful notecards and sweet metal birds in the dollar bins at Michael's and thought they matched the room perfectly.

So, I stretched a piece of ribbon across the curtain rod securing it on each end with a knot. I added my cards and birds, arranged them, set them in place with a teeny tiny bit of hot glue and voila...instant interest. Instant valance.

I had started with a thicker piece of leftover trim, but that proved too heavy, so in the end, I used a thinner ribbon. I always suggest using what you have on hand rather than spending money.

The paper cards looked super in the room and I didn't need to pull out a needle and thread!
