How can you paint a plastic pumpkin?

I am looking for pumpkins that will adhere to gold paint for a Fall "50th, Golden Anniversary" party. I know that Styrofoam will just soak in any paint. Can plastic pumpkins be painted or do they have to be ceramic?

Just find a paint made for plastic. It should tell you what kind of prep to do before you paint for good adhesion. I hope that helps you some, Judy!

Hi Judy. Plastic pumpkins can definitely be painted. I've painted many plastic things over the years. For me the easiest way is to use spray paint. Every brand has a paint and primer combo that will work on plastic. Just make sure to read the label to get the right one.

It's only polystyrene that melts with spray paint. I use a water based or acrylic paint.

What a great idea! They’ll be so cheap now that Thanksgiving is over. :) You can definitely spray paint plastic pumpkins. We did some with chalkboard paint - so gold will work for sure!

HAVE YOU TRIED CLOTH? JUST PUT PUMPKIN IN THE MIDDLE OF A PIECE OF GOLD CLOTH AND BUNCH IT INTO THE TOP, TAPE OR CLUE IT TO THE INSIDE.
