Hi Karen, it's easy to paint on burlap but be sure to place the burlap onto cardboard or a well covered area as the paint will definitely bleed through the texture of the burlap. You can use nearly any type of paint you like including wall paint or even the small plastic bottles of craft paint available at your local craft stores. Stencils are often helpful with fabric such as burlap. You can actually thumbtack them to the burlap and cardboard underneath to get a clear stencil design onto the burlap. Have fun and I hope you post your project!

I agree. Stencils are a huge help since the fabric is so rough it is hard to get details. Here is an example project https://familyfocusblog.com/easter-utensil-holders-from-burlap/

On painting any fabric, you need to let the top off of the can of paint so the paint gets thicker. Then you will be able to apply fewer thicker coats.
