Are you trying to break down scaling, of minerals ? if so pour directly into bowl 1+ cup and swirl around with brush. Do not flush use the brush and mixture several more times, over 2 hours or more to re-hydrate the scale each time to help break done the scale and use a pumice stone to help. Then go ahead an add to tank, is the color in tank reddish to medium brown ?
the vinegar may help but, mix up a 1/2 cup of Baking Soda an pour in tank, an swirl a few times to see if helps is the water system 25 or more years old, Steel pipes, red to brown stain. Copper pipe blue to light green color, Plastic or Flo-Gard or Pex pipe no color. so please reply, color stain tells a lot of stories/ Good Luck. Tr.
