...or a Salad Bar....or a raised-up-in-a-gutter Herb Garden! If you are not just a Hometalker but also a Pinterest Addict (guilty!) you've probably seen a project or two like this. Well when I stumbled across these old gutters my hubbie was throwing into the junk pile I started yelling at him "Oh my gosh! Don't get rid of those old gutters!! I want them and need them and you have to help me!!!" and then ran off all giddy. He's getting used to my crazy antics (thank goodness) and saved the gutters just for me (and his love of strawberries).
Now if you are a handy girl yourself you don't need no stink'in man, but my stinky manly-man was a great help. And he had fun doing it too! He cut the gutters with a Sawz-All then simply screwed them to our pump house at an angle (to help with drainage).
The angle's also allow them to drain into each other so it's kinda fun to watch =) The rest I handled myself...shopping for the materials!
To aide in the drainage I lined the gutters with styrofoam to help keep weight down in the gutters, but small pebbles would work as well. Then in goes the soil, the berries, and a bit of shavings to keep the soil from drying out too fast.
That's about it! But for a few more step-by-step pictures be sure to check out the link below. You'll also find a fun trick to help keep the birds away from your berries, and 25 Tips 'n Tastes for your new strawberry bounty!
