You can buy a bundle of inexpensive wood lathe to make rustic Christmas stars or you can use yardsticks. http://www.littlebitfunky.com/2012/11/20-minute-crafter-make-giant-star-for.html
Cut and glue the wood strips in the shape of the star you want, most people like an upper and lower longer section to the star when it is for Christmas. Then put lights on it to outline it or fill it in, depending on the look you want. I would cover the wood with a reflective material like metallic paint or even tin foil to make the light reflect even more brightly. Hope this helps Brenda

How to Make A Rustic Twig Star
Hi Brenda. I'm Cindy. Buy a box of popsicle sticks. Glue them together to form a star. Paint it and use fairy lights to create the star's trail. Good luck.
I made some with stakes. Arrange them to make a star, layering them to get them somewhat evenly placed. Then I used a nailgun to attach them. You could use regular nails as well.
