How do I make my own carpet cleaner?
I was watching the Doctors TV show\Monday this week and a guest presenter was talking about a recipe for spot cleaning your carpet that you can make at home as they were going off the air...she said 1/3 cup white vinegar and I think a glass of water to spray and spot clean your carpet. She stated her carpet cleaner guy told her to quit wasting her money on store bought and to make this instead. However, just as they were going off the air they cut of whether or not she said a glass of water or a sink of water or how much water, I went to their website and there is no way to ask them a question. So I was hoping you guys would know this recipe and would share it with me. Thanks for your time. Sincerely, Karen Collins ...collik@pobox.com
Karen, I'm not sure what the Doctor's TV show is, but I've cleaned my carpets this way for many years. Too many harmful chemicals in boughten cleaners. I just fill my shampooer with hot water and dump in about 1/2 cup of vinegar. Works great!
Thank you.!!
1/2 cup of water to a quart of water. Use cold water to rinse.
Thank you so much!
Hi Karen,
I'm Linda and a Hometalk helper. I agree with Rose. Vinegar and water are powerful cleaners for almost anything in your home. One suggestion before you start, especially if you have animals, would be to sprinkle baking soda on your carpet. Baking soda will absorb odors and things like body oil from walking around with bare feet. Let the baking soda sit for about an hour then vacuum your carpet before you start to shampoo it. You can also add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the vinegar and water mix which will leave your home smelling wonderful. Just be sure that you mix it well before starting. The essential oil will not leave residue on your carpet as long as it's mixed with the hot water & vinegar. Some oils can actually help with the cleaning process. I hope this helps you. Wishing you the best.
Thank you so much for all this info!

About 12 years ago when I rescued a puppy with skin allergies that were not food related, I changed everything in the house just for her. I only use natural products and as few chemicals as possible. My preference is a 50 / 50 mix of white vinegar and water, then a rinse with clear water.
Glad they were helpful Karen! Have fun cleaning. I know I am! 🌞
