How can I dye 50% cotton drop cloths?

wanting to use Rit dye on my drop cloths, they are not 100% cotton, since the bleach didn't work ? Thanks

I have heard borax will whiten them some but if you want them white white I would try dying them with chalk paint. https://salvagedinspirations.com/dos-donts-when-dyeing-fabric-with-chalky-paint/
Rit makes a line of Synthetic Fabric dyes. They work, but it takes a long time of pushing the fabric back down in the stove-top pot.
If I paint them white can they be washed??
