Learn how to make these gorgeous shelves from reclaimed wooden boards and plumbing supplies. Then decorate them with unexpected accessories for the perfect mix of old and new, rustic and glamorous.

Step 1: Determine where you would like your shelves to be placed and the length of each shelf. Use painter's tape in approximately the same thickness as your shelves to get a feel for how the shelves will look in the area. This easy trick helps you visualize the spacing between the shelves.

Use a saw to cut your reclaimed wood to the correct length. I was able to keep the width of my boards as it. If you must adjust the width be sure to remove excess from the back leaving the front of the boards in raw form. This will make for a much more charming finished product.

Step 2: Attach the plumbing pipe to the wall. Be sure to attach to wall studs or use toggle bolts to attach securley to the drywall.

Quick tip, to avoid scratching the screws stretch a thick rubber band across the screw head when tightening the screws into the drywall.

Step 3: Place the reclaimed wood boards on the support pipes. For safety, these can be secured using c-clamps underneath the boards.

Be sure those raw edges face away from the wall.

Step 4: Add your accessories. This is the perfect spot for a pop of color, a succulent planter, and some sparkle. My specific supply list and sourcing for my accessories can be found here.

What do you mean "by avoiding scratching the screws?".

I love it, but as distracted as I can get I think I would have to screw a couple of pipe clamp C's underneath so that if I put something heavy on one end it would not flip.

I considered that and if they were in a different location I would have done so. Where these are located there’s little chance of them getting bumped and my wood is very weathered so I didn’t want to put any unnecessary holes into it.
