I start early in November decorating for Christmas, we do several trees, etc. However this year we are the host family for Thanksgiving. I would like to leave my Thanksgiving decor out, just can't decide how to do Christmas as well. Any advise is welcome.

  • There are no rules! Do what makes you happy! I am sure many will enjoy seeing some Christmas decor up.

Hi Cris! My granddaughter has a birthday on December 3rd, so our family waits to decorate until then, so that Christmas is separate from her special day. I would suggest what we do - do fall/Thanksgiving décor through actual Thanksgiving, and since you don't have the 3rd of December date to worry about, start Christmas decorating the next day. I'm not saying you can't decorate, just not Christmas obvious. Trees can be lovely as greenery (although how do you keep them fresh if they are real? I'd love to know), just not covered with ornaments (yet).

No real trees here our grandson is allergic to them, thank you for your response. Have a Blessed Thanksgiving

Start the morning after Thanksgiving, get the kids or grandkids involved, pray over the impending chaos, and work quickly!

Or, you can just accept the fact that time is limited because you had something else fun to do this year. Bottom line...don't stress; enjoy yourself. What a shame when we allow things we enjoy so much, like decorating and big family dinners, to ruin our time together because we got all stressed out over the details. Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas to you and yours!

I agree with you about slowing down Thanksgiving is it's own holiday. Thank you for your thoughts. Have a Blessed Thanksgiving

Maybe this year you need to do things differently. Decorate for Thanksgiving then after, decorate for Christmas. We all have so much to be thankful for, it's too bad that Christmas has taken over Thanksgiving.

I know what you are talking about! As we speak, my house has 4 trees up, boxes of decorations everywhere! I'm not hosting Thanksgiving this year so I'm good. When I am, I decorate my house, all but my kitchen and dining room. After the blessing is said, and everyone leaves with a full stomach and a special craft we all make, this next morning I get my Christmas dishes, placemats, etc. out and by evening, I'm ready! I love the holidays....and this gives me a chance to enjoy it and get ready for the next celebration to begin!! I hope this helps.....

Mix them a little of both. Since you are doing a Thanksgiving dinner I would leave your dining room with that them, but you living room/sitting area should have some of the Christmas item you would normally do. I would hold off on the tree.
